Vintage Challenge: OPI Mad as a Hatter - swatches and review

Today it's all about glitter!! Christine and I who are hosting this Vintage Challenge week have decided that the theme for this Vintage Thursday is "Glitter"! Yay!

To me it was crystal clear on which glitter to show you. This was my first ever really huge lemming for quite some time until a wonderful colleague of mine found it and gave it to me! I'm sure many of you remember the hype of this polish.

So here it is in it's full glory - OPI's Mad as a Hatter from OPI's Alice in Wonderland Collection released Spring 2010.

GOOD TO KNOW:

Type of polish: Glitter.

Color: Multicolored tiny glitters in a clear base. Silver is dominant and after that purple but I can also see green, blue, gold and red glitters.

Number of coats: Three.

Formula: A very nice formula which is easy to control. The only down side is that it smells strongly of something similar to petrol.

Brush: Very nice! Wide and firm.

Top Coat: Yes. One coat. If you want it super smooth you'll need more coats and you will have to add more top coat almost daily because this darling is a bit of a top coat eater.

Color accuracy in pictures: Accurate. Of course even more sparkly and glittery live!

Grade: 5/5

Yes, it stinks of petrol and yes, you need at least three coats and lots of top coat, and yes, it's a bit of a pain to remove... But look at it!! Look at all the glitter and shine and sparkle and color!!! It's like wearing jewels on your nails! I love it! <3

How do you like Mad as a Hatter?

  1. Hihi, minns denna! Men jag var inte lika het på att skaffa som du. Jag tror att min glitterfacination började vid 2011-2012 så detta glitter var "före min tid". Dock var det ett väldigt fit glitter! :)

    1. You can always layer it instead of making it opaque :)

  4. Ciao bella! We had the same idea!! LOL! your pictures are fantastic!
It's funny mine does not smell bad... also it was completely smooth with one coat of seche vite... mmm, but maybe because I used a colour base? that might be the reason! Maybe using a colour base helps the glitter to "sink in" a little and it does not "sit" on the surface making that gritty feeling. I don't know for sure... but who cares, it's soooo glittery!!!

    1. Yep! It's not often vintage glitter thursdays so when they occur you have to make a huge glitter statement! Lol! ;)

  7. Hi sweetie, I love your twinsy with Nati!!! I think, there are too few out there because sometimes it makes such a huge difference how a polish looks depending on skin color or when applied over base color versus none and so on!!! I love both versions - yours and Natis. If I would own a mini-bottle only, I probably would go with Nati to layer it over a base color. But for full glam, I of course would slap on all the layers needed for opacity ;-) - viele Küsschen xxx

    1. Hi pet! I never thought of it like that! Like a twinsy! :D You are so right though! A lot of facts affect how a polish looks. All you said and also light, camera etc.
Normally I want to save on these precious drops but this time I splurged out! ;) lol!

  9. These kind of glitter nail polishes are not my favourites, I think they don't look good on my nails :-/ But I am surprised every time how they are full of glitter and full of colours! :-)
